Cristiano Ronaldo said he had "nothing to prove to anyone" after firing Portugal to World Cup 2014 with a stunning hat-trick during a 3-2 win over Sweden in the second-leg of their playoff tie.
The Real Madrid star struck thrice in the second half which, added to his goal in the 1-0 first leg win, wrapped up a 4-2 aggregate victory and put him on 47 goals for Portugal, level with Pauleta as the country’s joint-top scorer of all time.
And though Ronaldo was delighted for the Seleccao to seal their passage into the finals, he dismissed the significance of matching Pauleta’s record, instead asserting that his focus was on delivering on the pitch for his team.
“Records are there to be beaten. It was not a priority,” he began to Publico.
“I knew that Portugal needed me. I do not have to prove anything to anyone. I try to do my work and give answers on the pitch.
"I did my job for my team. It is the team who have to be congratulated. We suffered for sure but that is how great teams win things. We retreated a little [when Sweden scored], but then we were better and we played better."
The Portugal-Sweden playoff was touted as a battle for a World Cup spot between two of the world’s best players in Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and the Paris Saint-Germain striker struck twice in the second leg to briefly put Sweden ahead on the night after the former’s opener.
But though Ronaldo ultimately had the last laugh with two more goals in the last 15 minutes, he moved to quash any hype surrounding his individual rivalry with Ibrahimovic.
“I do not compete against Zlatan,” he said to TV4.
“He is a fantastic player and [the] biggest star in Sweden, but I do not compete against him. I play for my team.”
The 28-year-old also took to Twitter after the match to congratulate his team on their achievement in qualifying for next summer’s showpiece, tweeting: “All together we did it! Brazil is waiting for us!”
Portugal join fellow playoff winners France, Greece and Croatia as the final European entrants to the World Cup, while Ronaldo is only 19 caps away from breaking Luis Figo’s landmark of 127 appearances for the national side.

Assam Rape Festival in India

A festival in India, named the Assam Rape Festival, prompted the creation of the Great American Mass Shooting Festival in the U.S. The internet was outraged over the details published of the Assam Rape Festival that publications went viral in a few hours and were shared 212,000 times on Facebook’s network.
This festival allegedly began in 43 BC by Baalkrishan Tamil Nadu, who raped everyone in the village of Doomdooma. According to reports, the festival is a few days away but men are already starting celebrations. Girls, who are unmarried and between ages 7-16, already started to flee for safety.
The head of the festival, Madhuban Ahluwalia, spoke to reporters about the importance of the festival and how it has been a “long time tradition in Assam” where “we rape the evil demons out of the girls.” According to him, if they did not have the festival, the girls would “cheat” on them. He declared it was “necessary for everyone.”
All year there is training for the event. Ahluwalia thinks he will “get the Baalkrishan prize this year for sure” because he practiced.
One girl told reporters she almost made it through last year’s festival. “I got to the ‘rape-free-zone’ at the edge of town,” then at the last minute, nine men tackled her. She felt lucky to participate in this year’s event because if she didn’t, she “would be put to death by stoning.”
Readers were infuriated by the details of the festival. The Assam Rape Festival publication went viral around the internet. Except, everybody failed to realize-it was fake.
The festival does not exist. The article about the festival was intended to be satire. At the end of the article, those who wanted to participate or find out more information could call the hotline number given.
The media outlet that published it, National Report, received wide criticism from India and the rest of the world. Assam’s Criminal Investigation Department began a “suo motu” case against website for circulating a defamatory story.
Hindustan Times received a statement from the Chief Minister immediately that said, “the fraudulent and extremely unethical article about the completely fictitious festival is an act of serious disrespect and total disregard shown towards the humble and unsuspecting people of our beautiful state of Assam.” He added how “the writer of such a piece of pure evil is not fit for human society.”
Then, the backlash from the Assam Rape Festival prompted the Indian response article entitled “The Great American Mass Shooting Festival Begins Next Week.”
At the U.S. event, the “great” American people would be exercising their “God given, and constitutionally protected, right” to bear arms. “The Freedom Group” would sponsor the event. There were designated Iraq and Afghanistan themed shooting areas that would have women wearing Burqas. One person who has attended the event for 40 years said, “I used to come here with my father and we had a great time shooting down those niggers.”
The Indian response took clear jabs at controversial topics in the U.S. but then followed with a disclaimer and apology.
Found in the first line of the disclaimer is the denouncing of the above article as “fake.” The author mentions it is a response to the Assam Rape Festival publication and notes that the other publication never mentioned that it was a fake.
The Indian author then offered an apology because “making fun of deaths of innocents is unpardonable.” He noted that Indians were shocked about the mass Sandy Hook shooting and did not understand why Americans insist on carrying guns. He also admitted that Indians are ashamed of the crimes surfacing in India about heightened domestic violence and rape.
Ironically, the United States statistically has more rape cases than India, while India still has shootings even though citizens are not permitted to bear arms. The Indian author pointed out that while India seems horrible towards its women in the news, India currently has a woman as President of the India National Congress, Sonia Ghandi. The most powerful person in India is a woman. India broke that glass ceiling even before the U.S.
It is controversial to publish a satirical article using topics of rape, mass shooting and domestic violence. Victims and citizens who survived through those crimes suffer serious issues that plague them for life. That makes these topics certainly taboo for satire publications.

AT&T pulls Android 4.3 update for the Galaxy S4

Samsung started rolling out the Android 4.3 update for the Galaxy S4 a while back. The AT&T version in the US also started receiving the update just last week itself. However, AT&T has already pulled the plug on the update.
Although AT&T hasn't yet provided details as to why the update was pulled but it's easy to guess why. Just recently Samsung pulled the Android 4.3 update for the Galaxy S III, citing technical issues that caused several problems on the devices that were updated. AT&T may have noticed similar problems on the devices that received the update.
No information is available as of now as to when the update will start rolling out again.

So it has been confirmed, Jude Okoye, elder brother of the dynamic duo P-Square wasn’t present for his brother’s wedding.

A source spoke with P-Square’s publicist Bayo Adetu and he confirmed that Jude Okoye was not at Peter and Lola’s wedding yesterday.

The gist is that Jude Okoye and some members of P-Square’s band were stuck in Ghana after their Saturday night show.

What’s weird is that Peter and Paul also at that show and were able to make the trip back on Sunday morning but not Jude.

Emi Ni Baller was just me trying to be different and also challenging myself. God has made it really big because it wasn’t expected to be and that was why we termed it a freestyle.
Your rise to fame since winning Project Fame has been nothing short of meteoric. What’s your secret? What’s your advice to up and coming acts who want to make it like Miss Kedike?
It’s been God all the way. I’m also fulfilling destiny. To all who want to be successful, belief in one self is very key. Enjoy what you do and put in hard work. And most importantly, God above all.
You are yet to release a debut album. How soon should fans expect this?
By next year.
What has been your major challenge living life as a celebrity?
Being a female because most of the time females are not given any chance and then, the rumors.
You have been a popular target for bloggers and media houses looking for traffic, with false stories such as you being chased out of your church choir to you allegedly posting topless pictures. Why do you think these people choose to “attack” you?
It feels good to know that people want to use every opportunity to talk about me, it only means that I’m working and relevant. I do not really talk about myself a lot so they are constantly looking for what to say about me. And as they say, ‘Only the fruitful tree gets stoned’.
The latest of the scandals was the viral sex-tape that had someone that looked like you in it. What was your first reaction to the news?
I almost asked myself if I had a twin somewhere and then I just couldn’t stop laughing when I saw the girl’s picture because she didn’t look anything like me. It’s just a stepping stone to the next level.
There have been rumors about you being involved with Dammy Krane, who you have said is just a friend. Is there a man in Chidinma Ekile’s life?
There is none.
Peeshaun of Skuki is also said to have reportedly wanted to marry you. How did you react to that? Are you thinking of marriage yet?
No I’m not, not anytime soon.
What is your sense of fashion like? You have donned various looks over the years, from braids to your current cropped low-cut (which the male fans love). What influences your look?
I just love to look good and different. I’m not close to being a fashion freak.

Smartphone giants Apple says its fight with samsung over patent violations is not over yet. NEW YORK (AP) — A federal appeals court is ordering a lower court to reconsider Apple's attempt to block eight Samsung phones from the U.S. market because the products violate patents held by Apple.
The appeals court says the lower court should reconsider Apple's request for a permanent injunction on the grounds that Samsung's products infringe three utility patents. It says the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California was right to deny Apple the injunction based on three design patents and the general appearance of the products.
Apple sued Samsung in April 2011, and last year a jury awarded Apple more than $1 billion. The award was reduced and a new trial was ordered.
Apple wants $380 million, and Samsung says it should only have to pay $52 million.

Chaos on Ajah Road in Lagos state as trailer kills five school children

There's serious pandemonium on Ajah Road in Lagos as you read this. Area boys and passers-by are clashing with policemen after a trailer crushed five students as they were crossing the road. The sad incident happened close to Ikota Primary School and the dead pupils are believed to be making their way to the school when they were killed. The tanker driver abandoned his truck and escaped. The people protesting are insisting they won't leave the area until Governor Fashola shows up. They are blaming the gruesome accident on the lack of a pedestrian bridge in the area.
